The AHAC Health Advisory, generated by an independent physician, may encompass a medical history, a review of laboratory studies, an opinion regarding a specific diagnostic or treatment plan, or perhaps all of these. A suggested course of action regarding treatment and preventive care can be provided to ensure that the patient's well-being and health are of the highest priority.

A Health Care Advisory may give the patient:

      1. A high-quality, detailed, comprehensible report of health care needs, including suggestions which may not have been made by the patient's health plan.

      2. An evaluation of health care status, determining to what extent the patient's health needs are currently being met.

      3. A guide to complex decision-making for those patients faced with difficult medical problems.

      4. An action plan to help the patient and his or her doctors know what evaluations, treatments, or other actions should be taken to ensure future good health.

      5. Documentation which may be necessary to modify decisions made by the patient's medical plan.

How do you go about getting an independent medical evaluation and personal Health Advisory?

Schedule an appointment with the physician conducting the independent medical evaluation at the American Health Advisory Center. This may be in person, if the the patient is in the Washington, DC area, or by phone if the patient is not able to come to Washington, DC.

It is also extremely helpful for the patients to put in writing what they see as their problems with their health care. The health advisory is an examination of care being received or proposed for the patient, rather than a direct examination of the patient.

Secure copies of all relevant medical records, so that the AHAC physician can review these before talking with the patient. These include recent physicians notes, blood studies, consultations, EKGs, and pathology and X-ray reports.

Fill out a health inquiry form provided by AHAC prior to consultation with the AHAC physician. This will include a listing of the patient' s medical history, questions and goals.

For availability and scheduling, please call the American Health Advisory Center at 202 833-9440 or Fax us at 202 965-3703 or E-mail DrRobinson@MD-1.com.
