Overview
The AHAC personal Health Advisory puts the patient first, above the interests of any organization, and separates advice regarding medical care from financial considerations.

AHAC Background

The American Health Advisory Center was started when it became clear that, under the new schemes of health care organization, medical decisions are not necessarily being made by physicians for their patients. A more subtle change has also occurred. The physician can no longer always be the patient's advocate and the patient can not clearly discern when the physician, however reluctantly, is acting more on behalf of a managed care entity than on behalf of the patient. This is the reason some patients now need a Health Advisory.

Director's Message:
Just as every sailor knows it is easier to stay dry than to get dry, it is easier to stay healthy than to get healthy. People with medical problems cannot wait months for administrative review or years for legislative relief. AHAC is dedicated to seeing to it that the patient does not fall through the cracks as health care becomes the province of large organizations rather than of individual personal physicians.

We are in a position to move reasonably quickly to assist the patient in securing their proper health benefits. Typically, a Health Advisory can be completed within two weeks of the medical record being made available to the American Health Advisory Center staff.

Mission Statement:

The mission of  the American Health Advisory Center is to assure patients of the highest quality unbiased health care advice, placing their personal interest and well-being above all other considerations, regardless of any managed care authority, limitation of health insurance plan, or cost consideration.

The recommendation from AHAC may, in fact, not be for the most intense or expensive intervention, but it is made solely on the basis of what can be judged best for the individual patient, rather than what may appear sufficient for a general population of patients. AHAC does not benefit from the provision of either more or less expensive care.

With the Health Advisory in hand, the patient can be confident that all measures to benefit personal health are likely to be secured. The Health Advisory empowers the patient and levels the playing field between the person needing care and the far more powerful organization charged with providing that care. The patient becomes a truly informed consumer, not a supplicant before the managed care organization.
